RENO, Nev. - The Nevada volleyball team fell to the San Diego State Aztecs on Thursday evening, 3-1, after winning the second set, 30-28. The Pack moves to 8-20 on the year with a 1-16 conference record.
Kayla Afoa lead the team with 18 kills but Shiloh Peleras was right behind with 11 for herself. Dalyn Burns recorded another double-double on the season with 41 assists and 10 digs in the four-set match. Senior Mo Maluotoga had a team high 19 digs with Afoa and Kassie McGill tallying four block assists each.
The Pack had a match high .209 hitting percentage in the second set that saw Nevada win the rally, 30-28. Nevada trailed the majority of the set until a four-point scoring run tied it up late, 24-24. The two teams battled back-and-forth to tie it up again, 25-25, 26-26, and 27-27 and even 28-28. However, a McGill kill followed by Kili Robins secured the win, 30-28. With the set win it tied the match up 1-1.
The third set also saw extra points as it went 26-24 in the Aztecs way. Nevada held the lead through the entire set until San Diego State tied it up 23-23. The Aztecs recorded a service error putting the Pack up 24-23 and looking at set point, but an attack error from the Pack and a San Diego State kill gave them the set, 25-23.
San Diego State simply out played Nevada in the fourth set putting up a .248 hitting percentage. The Pack lead again for the beginning of the set but the Aztecs rallied back and took the set, 25-23.
The Pack plays it season finale in Fresno, Calif. against Fresno State on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1:00 p.m. PT. The match will also be carried on the Mountain West Network for fans to tune in.
