RENO, Nev. – In a tight contest from start to finish, Nevada (4-13-2, 1-10 MW) fell to intrastate rival UNLV (11-6-3, 5-4-2 MW) on Friday night 2-1. Freshman
Kendal Stovall tied her career-high with nine saves on the night, ending the season with 99, ranking as the seventh-most in a single season by a Nevada keeper.
The Wolf Pack improved on its 2017 campaign in head coach
Erin Otagaki's second season, earning three more victories including one in conference. The team's 3-0-1 start to the season was the second-best in school history.
The Rebels snagged the lead early, when an own-goal by the Pack gave them the 1-0 advantage just two minutes into the match.
Nevada responded later in the period, as senior
Analyse Talavera booted in her first goal of the season after a throw-in by fellow senior
Angel Meriwether. Talavera was the 11th different member of the Pack to score the season.
Shortly after, UNLV's Kaila Brinkman netted her seventh goal of the season in what proved to be the game winner in the 34th minute.
Stovall's 99 saves were the most by a Nevada goalkeeper since
Kelsey Quintos recorded 111 in 2016.
Nevada wrapped up its night with 10 shots, and a team-high three of them coming from Meriwether. Stovall and senior
Bryanna Wiehe finished the season as the only two members of the Pack to play all 1,750 minutes.
Prior to the match, six members of the Pack were honored as a part of Senior Night. Seniors
Mackenzie Robinson,
Eleanor Small and
Lauren Woodyard were recognized along with Meriwether, Talavera and Wiehe.
