BOISE, Idaho – The Nevada volleyball team fell to the Boise State Broncos on the road, 3-0, on Thursday evening. The Pack move to 8-14, 1-10 on the year and look ahead to their next contest.
Junior outside hitter Camryn Rocha alongside sophomore Kayla Afoa, led the team with nine kills each while Afoa tallied 12 digs for herself. Sophomore setter, McKayla Wuensch notched a double-double on the night with 15 assists and 11 digs while Dalyn Burns claimed two kills, 19 assists and seven digs.
In the first set, there were 19 ties and nine lead changes alone which previewed what the match was going to be like, a back-and-forth fight. Neither team had a single run or scored more than two points in a row in set one. With the final score of 26-24, Boise State claimed the set. The Pack however, held the Broncos to just one block while also holding them to a .211 hitting percentage.
The second set was similar in that it had 15 ties and six lead changes for a two set total of 34 ties and 15 changes. The Pack out-hit the Broncos in the set, .184 to .149 and kept them to just 12 kills while recording 18 as a team but errors got the best of Nevada and the Broncos took advantage to take the set, 27-25.
The largest lead and longest scoring runs of the night were both in the third set. The Broncos took the lead mid-way through, 18-12 after a 6-0 run and took the biggest lead of the night but Nevada went on their own run. A 4-0 run cut the Bronco lead, 18-16 and forced a timeout. The Pack tried to rally behind the run but Boise State took two more kills and a Pack error to enhance their lead, 22-18 and ultimately the set, 25-18.
