The Pack drops home contest to San Diego State

RENO, Nev. – Despite a hard fought battle and scoring over 70 points in the match, the Nevada volleyball team dropped the home contest against San Diego State, 3-1. The Pack moves to 8-13, 1-9 on the season.

Nevada had three players that recorded 10-plus kills. Sophomore Sam Hayward tallied 13, Kili Robins had 10 and outside hitter Kayla Afoa notched 14 with 15 digs for her 12th double-double on the year. The most accurate Pack member today was Shiloh Peleras who had six kills on 14 attempts for a .429 hitting percentage while also having four block assists.

Junior Dalyn Burns recorded a double-double with 27 assists and 13 digs while also having three service aces. McKayla Wuensch lead the team with 4 service aces while also seeing amble time at setter with 15 assists.

In the first set, Nevada surged to an early 20-13 lead with Afoa already marking four kills on the day. The Aztecs fought back and tied it up 23-23 late, on a four-point scoring run. The set then was tied at all point marks, 24, 25 and 26 before San Diego State took the final two points with a kill from Hannah Turnlund and a Nevada attack error, 28-26.

San Diego State had the lead early in the second set, 5-3, but Nevada put together two, four-point scoring runs to take the lead 20-10. The Pack then continued the offensive attack, hitting a .536 as a team and claimed five of the next seven points to win the set, 25-12.

The third and fourth sets were a battle between the teams. The longest run of either team were four-point runs in the fourth set. The Aztecs took both sets with scores of 25-22 and 25-20.

Next up on the schedule for the Wolf Pack is a match in Boise, Idaho as it takes on Boise State, Oct. 25 at 6:30 p.m. PT.
