The Pack falls short at Air Force in five-sets

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Nevada volleyball team moves to 8-11, 1-7 on the season after falling to Air Force on the road. The Falcons (13-8, 3-4) extended its home winning record to 9-4.

The Pack fell in the first two sets, 24-26 and 16-25 but won the next two in a commanding way, 25-19 and 25-16. It came down to the fifth and final set in which the Falcons took it 15-8.

Junior Kayla Afoa picked up her tenth double-double after a 15 kill 17 dig showing. Sophomore Sam Hayward joined the double-digit kill party with 12 of her own. The pair of setters in Dalyn Burns and McKayla Wuensch both had over 20 assists and combined for 47 total.

The Pack struggled offensively in the first two sets, only putting up 18 kills and just about a .300 kill percentage. The third and fourth sets were a different story. Nevada combined for 29 kills in sets three and four along with a .514 percentage in the third set.

Nevada started off hot in the third set, going for a 5-0 scoring run to put them up 9-5 before Air Force called timeout. The Pack continued to extend its lead into the later end of the set, 20-15. The Falcons scored the next two points on back-to-back kills but the Pack responded and behind a block from Shiloh Peleras took the third, 25-19.

The fourth started similar to the third where the Pack jumped out on a 5-0 scoring run to lead 12-7, forcing the Falcons to call timeout. Nevada just continued the offensive attack and was responsible for four kills in the last seven plays of the set taking it, 25-16.

Air Force responded in the fifth set and hit a .381 percentage where the Pack struggled to keep up defensively. The Falcons took a 9-3 lead after the media timeout and Nevada responded cutting the Air Force lead within four points but the Falcons held on and took it, 15-8.

Next up for the Pack is to host Fresno State on Oct. 18th and San Diego State on Oct. 20th. The match against SDSU will be the annual Dig Pink match and tickets are available at NevadaWolfPack.com.
