RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada (0-1-0) fell to the Fordham Rams (1-0-0) by a score of 2-0 in their season opener at the Moana Springs Sports Complex. The Wolf Pack will look to bounce back when they host Sacramento State at Moana on Sunday at 1 p.m.

"Obviously not the result we wanted, but the team made some adjustments in the second half and we definitely improved," said head coach Erin Otagaki. "We are looking to come out strong on Sunday."

In the first start of her career at Nevada, goalkeeper Lauryn Horstdaniel tallied three saves for the Pack. After Fordham scored two goals in the first half, Horstdaniel was lights out for the final 45 minutes of the contest.

The Pack outshot the Rams 11 to 10, with three of them coming from junior Rylee Peterson. Peterson was able to put two on goal, but Nevada was unable to get any of their five shots on goal past the combination of goalkeepers Colleen Hickey and Kelly LaMorte of Fordham.

Freshmen Hannah Souza and Rachel Gensch combined for three shots with one going on goal in their first collegiate game. Tiana Ono and Rylie West also put in solid minutes for Nevada in the first game of their freshman campaign.

Fordham had six corner kick opportunities, but the stingy Pack defense was able to hold them off each time. The Rams also had 11 fouls called against them, compared to Nevada's five.

Nevada will battle Sacramento State at Moana this Sunday at 1 p.m. Admission to the event will be free.

The Wolf Pack's first home game in Mackay Stadium will be Sept. 8 against Southern Utah. Get your tickets for the rest of the season's home games today by calling (775) 348-PACK or visiting NevadaWolfPack.com.
