FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Both the Nevada swimming and diving teams competed on Friday as the Wolf Pack swimmers went up against California in a dual meet, while the divers participated in the opening day of the NAU Diving Invitational. Though the swimmers fell to the Bears by a score of 127-65, senior
Sharae Zheng led the diving squad with her win in the 1-meter springboard.
With the best preliminary round score of 326.30 in the 1-meter springboard, Zheng also came out on top in the finals, winning the event by more than 20 points with her score of 429.55. Junior
Toma Shmitova came in fourth place, scoring 594.20 points, and junior
Sio I Lei finished sixth in the 1-meter springboard with 572.05 points
The swimmers found themselves in a hole early after the first five events of the day and was able to trim Cal's lead nearly in half, but the deficit proved to be too much for the Pack to overcome as the Bears took the win. Nevada showed its fight throughout the entire dual, having finished second in five of the 11 total events on the day.
Sophomore
Andressa Cholodovskis won the Pack's only event against the Bears in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.07. She was followed by juniors
Caitlyn Richardson (51.47) who finished second and
Jamie Reynolds (53.99), who placed fourth in the same event.
Nevada finished the dual on a strong note as the Pack's A and B team finished second and third, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle relay. As the divers wrap up their time at the NAU Diving Invitational on Saturday, the swimmers will begin to prepare for their final event before the spring semester begins. The team will travel to Federal Way, Washington for the Husky Invitational Dec. 1-3.
