RENO, Nev. – In a match dominated by defense, the Nevada women's soccer team (1-13-0, 0-5-0 MW) could not overcome a goal scored in the opening two minutes by Mountain West opponent Colorado State (3-7-4, 1-3-2 MW) who won the match 1-0. Junior Angel Meriwether led Nevada with three shots on the day.
Not two minutes into the match, the Rams were given a free kick just outside the box and Makenzi Taylor drilled the ball into the top left corner for the score. That goal would end up being the game winner, as the Rams would hold on to win the match 1-0.
Nevada had some chances in the first half, winning the shot differential seven to five in the first 45 minutes of the match. The Pack ended the day outshooting the Rams 10 to nine.
Meriwether's one shot on goal came on a beautiful feed from junior Bryanna Wiehe that put her one-on-one with CSU goalkeeper Hunter Peifer. Piefer was forced to dive to her right to make a great save and rob the Wolf Pack of tying the match in the 54th minute.
Wiehe came out for the first time all season on Sunday afternoon, but returned to the match nine minutes later. The junior has a team-high 1,288 minutes on the pitch this year and recorded two shots for the Pack today.
Nevada will hit the road next weekend when it travels to face San Jose State. Get your tickets for the final match in Mackay against Utah State on Oct. 22 by calling (775) 348-PACK or visiting NevadaWolfPack.com.
