SAN JOSE, Calif. – After both teams grinded out a scoreless first half, the University of Nevada (1-14-0, 0-7-0 MW) could not overcome Mountain West foe and first place San Jose State's (8-5-1, 5-1-1 MW) two goals in the final 45 minutes. The Wolf Pack will look to bounce back when it battles Fresno State this Sunday on the road.
After seeing plenty of minutes at both midfield and forward this season, as well as limited time in goal, freshman goalkeeper Jamie Flynn made her first start as Nevada's goalkeeper on Friday morning. Flynn made seven saves, including four in the first half when she shutout the Spartans through the first 45 minutes of play.
Three of Nevada's five shots came in the first half, with one of its best opportunities coming in the 13th minute off the foot of Carrington Tolliver where her shot sailed just over the crossbar. Rylie West led the Pack with two shots on the day.
Both of San Jose's goals came in the second half, the first from a plethora of Spartans in front of the goal who all played a role in knocking it past Flynn. The Spartan's insurance came in the 61st minute when Yaritza Arista blasted one from 18 yards out for her first goal of the season.
Nevada put one past SJSU goalkeeper Paige Simoneau in the 83rd minute, but it was disallowed as the Pack was called offside.
Nevada will play at Fresno State this Sunday at 12 p.m. and will be live streamed on the Mountain West Network. Get your tickets for the final match in Mackay against Utah State on Oct. 22 by calling (775) 348-PACK or visiting NevadaWolfPack.com.
