SAN JOSE, Calif. - Jumping three spots on the final day, the Nevada women's golf team earned a fourth place finish at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational on Tuesday.

"It was good to see the team come out and play well today," said coach Kathleen Takaishi. "Katy had a great showing this week and played very consistent. Mari did a great job of grinding out some mediocre rounds. It will be good to have a few weeks to work on some things before we compete again."

The Wolf Pack was much improved on day two, improving by 12 shots from round two and posting the third-best team score of the day. Nevada used its team score of 298 on Tuesday to jump three spots on the leaderboard and finish one stroke ahead of UC Irvine for fourth. BYU claimed the team title, finishing three shots ahead of tournament host San Jose State at 18-over par.

Takaishi got a couple of solid performances from her young guns as freshman Mari Nishiura, playing in just her second collegiate tournament, posted a top 10 finish. Nishiura moved up the leaderboard to tie for ninth place after shooting the best round of her young college career, a 1-over 73. Takaishi's other rookie, Katy Rutherford, notched a top 15 finish in her first collegiate event, finishing at 9-over for the tournament.

Another top 15 finisher for the Pack was junior Celyn Khoo, who tied for 11th place in the field of 59. Khoo carded a three-day score of 224 and was 8-over. Sophomore Chaithra Katamneni and junior Jordan Keyser rebounded after rough second rounds yesterday. Katamneni improved six strokes and shot a 75 on Tuesday, while Keyser also improved by six strokes to card a 76. Katamneni tied for 29th and Keyser tied for 53rd.

Kendra Dalton of BYU won the individual title after three straight rounds under par. She finished at 4-under for the tournament and was two shots better than runner-up My Leander of San Jose State. Dalton and Leander were the only players in the field to finish under par.

Nevada will take the rest of September off from competition and get back at it Oct. 7-9 at the Ron Moore Women's Collegiate in Denver, Colo.
