RENO, Nev. - Wasting little time to get back into competition, the Nevada women's golf team travels over to San Jose, Calif. to take part in the Juli Inkster Spartan Invite, which begins on Monday.
"I'm excited to see what we can do next week," said coach Kathleen Takaishi. "The team is playing really well right now and should have some confidence heading into this event. Almaden is a course that sets up well for us."
The Wolf Pack had a solid start to its season earlier in the week, finishing in the top five at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic. Although the weather did not cooperate for the final round, Nevada showed much promise in rounds one and two.
The Pack has played in past events hosted by San Jose State, but this will be its first SJSU event in the fall. It should have a familiar feel though as Nevada competed against six of the 11 teams in the field earlier in the week at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic, which was won by San Jose State.
The bulk of the Nevada lineup will remain the same, the only change that Takaishi will make is the addition of freshman Katy Rutherford, who will replace fellow rookie Jenny Krause for the final spot. This will be Rutherford's first collegiate tournament.
Nevada's top finisher from its last event, junior Celyn Khoo, is in the lineup this week after placing just outside the top 10 in Colorado. Also in the lineup will be junior Jordan Keyser who placed behind Khoo and posted a solid outing for her first tournament in over a year. Sophomore Chaithra Katamneni and freshman Mari Nishiura round out the Pack lineup.
