Round one results
HENDERSON, Nev. - Playing in a familiar event this week, the Nevada women's golf team opened play at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, hosted by UNLV at Boulder Creek Golf Course.
The Wolf Pack carded one of its best rounds of the season on Sunday, shooting an 8-over 296. Playing in one of the deepest fields the team will see all year though, the Pack is tied for 16th heading into round two. Nevada is tied at 8-over with UC Irvine and is ahead of New Mexico State and New Mexico. The top nine teams in the field finished under par and was led by Baylor who posted a score of 15-under. The Bears lead Idaho by five strokes going into Monday.
Junior Jordan Keyser had a career day on Sunday as she fired a 2-under 70, besting her previous career-low of 73. Keyser played a perfect round of golf, making birdie on No. 10 and 17 and did not have a single bogey. After the opening round she is tied for 15th place in the 105-player field.
Behind Keyser on the Wolf Pack lineup is freshman Mari Nishiura. She shot a 2-over 74 and is tied for 60th. Fellow freshman Katy Rutherford and senior Bertille DuPont tied on the afternoon with rounds of 76 and are tied for 88th place. It ties a season-low for DuPont, while Rutherford led the team in birdies with five. Sophomore Chaithra Katamneni struggled in round one, carding a 6-over 78 to put her in a tie for 98th.
There is a tie atop the individual leaderboard between Maria Vesga of Baylor and Hannah Facchini of UC Riverside. Both players shot 6-under rounds of 66 on Sunday. They lead by one shot.
