RENO, Nev. – University of Nevada senior guard Caleb Martin has been named the Wolf Pack Student-Athlete of the Week after helping the 10th ranked Pack to a pair of Mountain West victories. On Saturday at Fresno State he became the 29th player to score 1,000 points in the Silver & Blue and has 1,004 points in 53 games at Nevada.
In the two games, Martin averaged 25 points, five rebounds, 1.5 blocks, 1.5 steals, shot 45.7 percent from the field, and 38.5 percent from behind the arc.
In Nevada’s 92-53 win over SJSU he came off the bench for the first time this season and scored a game-high 23 points, 21 in the second half playing 25 minutes. He was nearly perfect in the second half making 7-of-8 shots from the field, went 6-of-6 from behind the arc and made his only free throw attempt. The six made 3-pointers tied his career high. Martin also had three assists, a block and a steal. The block was third in the ESPN SportsCenter top 10 Wednesday night.
Saturday in the 10-point victory, 74-64 at MW co-leading Fresno State he scored a game-high 27 points and just missed a double-double grabbing nine rebounds playing 39 minutes. He once again scored the majority of his points in the second half with 15 after the break. In addition he had two assists, two blocks and two steals.
On the season he has nine games of 20 or more points which includes a career-high 33 points at Utah.
