After a record-setting performance last week, Nevada men’s golf sophomore Joey Vrzich has been named the Wolf Pack Student-Athlete of the Week.
This is Vrzich’s third Wolf Pack Student-Athlete of the Week honor this season, and for good reason. On the final day of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational, Vrzich turned in a program, course and career-low round of 61. Additionally his 10-under round of 61 is the lowest round in the NCAA this year. His strong play helped lead the Wolf Pack to a program-record 22-under par team round and a 12-shot win over No. 16 BYU, the Pack’s second consecutive win.
Vrzich began the final round in a tie for 18th place and leapt 16 spots to earn a runner-up finish, finishing at 12-under par, four shots behind individual winner Peter Kuest of BYU. Vrzich played an unbelievable round of golf on Saturday, making eight birdies, an eagle and no bogeys. He was 6-under par after his first six holes.
