Shawn McLaughlin begins his first season as an assistant volleyball coach at the University of Nevada in 2011. The South Lake Tahoe, Calif. native will assist in all areas of the program but will help primarily with the Pack defense, coaching the defensive specialists and liberos. Additionally he will assist with video, opponent scouting and team travel.
Prior to joining the Wolf Pack coaching staff he spent two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach at UC?Davis. He helped the Aggies move from seventh in the Big West Conference standings to finish in a tie for second place in his time at UCD.
While at UCD, McLaughlin ran data volley, a computer software program that allows for the breakdown of both teams based on specific skills and rotations. He also produced the season highlight video and end of year book.
In addition to working at the collegiate level McLaughlin spent time coaching Force, Capital City and St. Charles United club volleyball. His 2009 club team finished 10th at USA?Junior Nationals. While involved with club volleyball he coached several All-America athletes who earned collegiate scholarships. As a coach at Capital City, he worked with three players Teal Ericson, Carly Sorenson and Tristin Adams, who went on to have outstanding careers at Nevada.
From 2000-04, he was an assistant coach at Whittell High School in Zephyr Cove, Nev. The Warriors won three state titles 2000, 2003 and 2004 during his time on the staff and captured five league titles from 2000-04.
A camp veteran McLaughlin has worked the Nevada, Cal, UC?Davis, Stanford and Feather River College volleyball camps. His extensive camp background provides him a working knowledge of running and scheduling a collegiate camp.
He played collegiate volleyball at Lindenwood University in St. Charles Mo., earning a degree in history education with a minor in social studies in 2009. While at LU, he helped guide the Lions to a pair of second place finishes at the NAIA?Championship and assisted with the junior varsity team.
