Jason Sterrett was announced the newest addition to head volleyball coach Shannon Wyckoff McNeal's's coaching staff during Spring 2024.
Sterrett has spent the past 30 years coaching at the high school and collegiate levels, including stints at Feather River College and at Nevada before becoming the owner and head coach of the Northern Nevada Juniors Volleyball Club (NNJ), and the director of operations and head volleyball coach at Bishop Manogue Catholic High School in Reno.
Currently, Sterrett serves as the owner and head coach at Northern Nevada Juniors (NNJ), which began in 2007. Starting with around 18 teams, Sterrett has helped the club to grow to a total of 42 teams. Under Sterrett, NNJ saw its highest finishes at the 18’s Girls Junior National Championships, finishing third in in 2022 and 2023.
For 25 years, Sterrett served as Bishop Manogue’s head volleyball coach. Under Sterrett’s tutelage, the Miners closed every season with a regional championship or regional runner-up title, being crowned the 4A state champions in 2008, state runner-up in 2015, and state semifinalists in 2017 and 2021. During the 2023 season, the Miners finished 20-16 overall, going 11-5 in league, and ranked 10th in the state.
In addition to coaching volleyball at Manogue, Sterrett’s tenure saw him also occupy roles of Athletic Director, Director of Development, and Director of Operations.
Sterrett spent one season (1998-99) as an undergraduate assistant with the Nevada women’s volleyball team under head coach Devin Scruggs, with his coaching career beginning at Feather River College in 1994.
The Reno native graduated from Nevada in 2000 with a degree in recreation administration.
