Nevada head women's tennis coach Guillaume Tonelli will begin his 15th season leading the Wolf Pack in 2025-26. Over his previous 14 seasons he has compiled a record of 129-127.
Tonelli oversaw a record-breaking season of success in 2024-25, as the Wolf Pack set the season record for dual wins (17) and went 8-2 to take second in the Mountain West standings and record its highest such finish since joining the conference in 2012-13. Nevada also posted its second unbeaten home season in a row, going 8-0 at McArthur Tennis Center.
Under Tonelli's tutelage, Amahée Charrier dominated at No. 1 singles, going 27-7 on the year and 10-3 in duals. Her performance, which included a 4-1 mark in conference, led to her being named 2025 Mountain West Player of the Year and to the All-Mountain West Singles list. Marlene Foerster posted a 17-9 record in singles, while Silvia-Maria Costache (15 wins), Kennedy Robinson (14) and Petra Janigova (14) also notched at least 14 singles victories.
He began the 2024-25 season coaching Charrier to the consolation bracket championship of the ITA Conference Masters Championships, where she defeated conference champions from across the country. Tonelli also led Charrier to the Mountain West Fall Qualifier final and the ITA Mountain Regional quarterfinal.
The program's success in 2024-25 bested a 2023-24 campaign which had been the program's best in a decade. The Pack went 11-9 overall, 5-4 in Mountain West play and finished the season with a 5-0 home record at McArthur Tennis Center. The Wolf Pack's winning record in conference play was the program's first since 2013. Tonelli also rallied the Wolf Pack from down 1-0, to defeating Boise State for the first time since 2015, 4-3. Charrier, the Wolf Pack's top-flight player, finished the season 17-12 overall and 3-2 in conference, leading to her second career all-conference selection.
In 2022-23, Tonelli's Wolf Pack finished 9-10 with key wins over San Diego State, 4-3, and New Mexico, 4-2, both coming on neutral sites. The Pack finished the season 3-1 at home, the first time in five years the Pack finished with a winning record at home. The Wolf Pack weilded a pair of star freshman in Charrier and Audrey Moutama. Charrier went 9-6 in her freshman season, playing top-flight singles for the Pack. Charrier was named the Mountain West freshman of the year, the Wolf Pack's second consecutive honor. Moutama, primarily playing fifth and sixth flight singles, finished the season 18-6 and 6-1 in conference play.
Tonelli's first freshman of the year came in 2021-22, with Mariana Campino being named the first Mountain West freshman of the year in program history. Campino led the Wolf Packwith 13 wins overall and five in conference play, playing at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Campino was also named to the All-Mountain West singles team. Tonelli's team finished 10-11 on the season but made a deep run at the Mountain West Championships. The Wolf Pack defeating the No. 9 seed New Mexico, 4-1. Nevada's signature win on the season came against regular-season champions, Fresno State, in the quarterfinal of the Championships. Down 3-1, the Wolf Pack defeated the Bulldogs 4-3, clinching the victory from Cristina Moll Alles's comeback victory, sending the Wolf Pack through to the semifinals.
The Pack went 5-6 during a shortened 2019-20 season because of Covid-19. His most successful season came in the 2012-13 where he tallied 12 wins and defeated Boise State as the No. 4 seed in the first round of the MW Championships.
In the 14 years a total of 33 times a Nevada athlete has earned all-conference honors under his tutelage. Nine times it was during Nevada’s time in the Western Athletic Conference and 24 came since the Pack joined the Mountain West for the 2013 season. The highest honor was in 2017 when Claudia Herrero was named the MW Player of the Year.
He coached Michelle Okhremchuk, who has the most singles victories in Nevada history with 88, and Emma Verberne, who has the third most all-time with 75. Sheila Morales and Herrero rank fifth and sixth with 69 and 60 singles victories in Nevada history.
Tonelli coached teammates Blaga Delic and Morales to 44 doubles victories, the most by a duo in school history. The tandem was one of 32 teams to compete in the NCAA championship during the 2014-15 season. The two teammates were named to the All-Mountain West doubles team all three years they played together, with Morales making it all four years at Nevada. In 2014-15, they were the first Nevada duo to ever compete in the NCAA Championship. The following season, Morales and Delic won the ITA Mountain Regional Doubles Championship to advance to the 2015 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships at the UTSA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. They were also ranked 75th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Morales, in four years with Tonelli as coach, accumulated a 69-44 record in singles, with the 69 wins being the fifth most in school history. Morales was also named to the All-Mountain West singles team three of her four seasons.
One of Tonelli’s most successful athletes has been Claudia Herrero, who is the first player in program history to be named Mountain West Player of the Year. In her first season playing for the Wolf Pack, Herrero tied the school record with 24 singles victories in a single season on her way to being named All-MW in singles for the first time. This past season, Herrero went to the ITA Mountain Regionals where she defeated Morales to advance to the USA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in Flushing, N.Y. Herrero has also been named to the All-MW singles team both seasons under coach Tonelli. She was ranked as high as 66th in singles by the ITA.
During his playing career with the Wolf Pack, Tonelli won 30 singles matches and 15 doubles matches. He went 15-10 in singles play as a junior in 2005-06 and then recorded a 15-14 record as a senior in 2006-07. Despite playing in the program for only two years, Tonelli ranks 11th all-time in Nevada in career singles victories, a spot he shares with former men's coach Chad Stoloff.
A native of Valenciennes, France, Tonelli started his collegiate career at Tyler (Texas) Junior College in where he won nationals in 2003-04 and finished second the following year. He was an Academic All-American both years at Tyler and was a two-time Academic All-WAC selection at Nevada.
Tonelli graduated from the University of Nevada in 2008 with his bachelor's degree in international business and a minor in economics. He also earned his master's in business administration from Nevada in 2011. Tonelli is married to his wife Jessica, also a Nevada graduate. The couple has two daughters, Annabelle and Valentina.
