Ivan Zarate Headshot 2018

Ivan Zarate

Ivan Zarate was promoted to assistant coach after spending three years as a volunteer assistant with the Wolf Pack.

Serving as the goalkeeper coach, Zarate has played a key role in guiding goalkeeper Kendal Stovall to second on Nevada's all-time career goalkeeper saves list. Nevada also ranked sixth in the Mountain West in goalkeeper saves with 81 during the 2021 season.

"Ivan has been such an important part of Wolf Pack Soccer over the last couple of years," head coach Erin Otagaki said. "His ability to work with the goalkeepers has been incredible. His enthusiasm for the sport and the goalkeeper position is evident in his training sessions. He continues to pour his knowledge and energy into this program and we continue to be grateful for his dedication.

Originally from Mexico City, Mexico, Zarate was a goalkeeper at the University of Central Arkansas from 2007-11. He led the team to the Missouri Valley Conference Championship Tournament in 2011. He boasts the school record for goals against average.

Following his collegiate career, Zarate made the MISL Wichita Wings practice squad, and then served as the head coach of the women’s soccer team at Independent High School in Wichita, Kansas

“Soccer has given me so much from discipline to a family,” Zarate said. “I want to give back to the soccer community and be involved in any way that I can.”
