BJ Robertson, who served on Jeff Choate's Montana State football staff from 2016-20, begins his second season as Nevada's Director of Recruiting in 2025.

Robertson joined Choate's first staff in Bozeman as Special Teams Coordinator in 2016, and in fall 2020 added the title of Associate Head Coach. In addition to his coaching duties, Robertson also served as liaison between the Bobcat football program and the state's high school coaches.

Prior to joining the Montana State staff, Robertson spent three seasons (2013-15) as head coach at his alma mater, Montana Western. Over just three seasons, Robertson built the Bulldogs into a Frontier Conference power, leading the program to its first winning season (6-5) in a decade then going 7-3 in his final season.

At Montana State, Robertson's special teams units were consistently among the most dangerous in FCS. The Bobcats ranked in the national top-20 in numerous special-teams statistical categories, including three top-15 punt units (2017-19). Punter Jered Padmos ranked fifth in the FCS in punting average in 2019, and twice earned All-Big Sky honors (2017, 2019), while Joey Michael was named All-Big Sky Honorable Mention on special teams in 2016. Robertson's special-teams units played a key role in Montana State's FCS playoff berths in 2018 and 2019, including a semifinal run in the latter appearance.

Robertson began his coaching career at Rockford in 2001, serving two seasons as a graduate assistant before beign promoted to assistant coach from 2003-05. After a season at Southern Oregon, he spent six years (2007-12) as an assistant coach at Rocky Mountain.
