Virgil Green March 2025 Headshot

Virgil Green

  • Title
    Tight Ends
Virgil Green begins his third season coaching Nevada's tight ends in 2025. The former Wolf Pack standout and Super Bowl 50 champion was named Nevada's tight ends coach Aug. 28, 2023, after serving as the program's Director of Player Personnel since March 2022.

Sharing the knowledge of a position at which he shined for both Nevada (2008-10) and in 10 NFL seasons with the Denver Broncos (2011-17) and Los Angeles Chargers (2018-20), Green has overseen overseen key contributions to the receiving and run-blocking game from his group for the Wolf Pack.

In 2024, tight end Jace Henry made an immediate impact, catching seven passes for 49 yards and two touchdowns, and helping run-block to two of the Pack's four-highest rushing outputs before he suffered a season-ending injury in the fourth gmae of the season. Such was Henry's impact in such a short time, however, that he earned a spot on Phil Steele's Preseason All-Mountain West teams ahead of the 2025 campaign.

Green played three seasons at tight end with the Wolf Pack from 2008-10, making 72 receptions for 939 yards and 11 touchdowns. A two-time All-WAC selection (2009-10), Green was a dangerous target for quarterback Colin Kaepernick, finishing the historic 2010 campaign as the Wolf Pack's the second-leading receiver on a star-studded team. Green finished the season with 35 catches for 515 yards and five touchdowns as Nevada went 13-1, captured the WAC title, defeated Boston College in the Fight Hunger Bowl, and ended the year ranked No. 11 in the final Associated Press Poll.

Green was selected by the Denver Broncos in the seventh round of the 2011 NFL Draft, and went on to win Super Bowl 50 in 2016. He was a two-time AFC Champion (2013, 2015), and, during the Broncos Super Bowl 50 run, he caught 22 passes for 237 yards and a touchdown.

The 10-year NFL veteran played in 137 games, making 102 receptions for 1,145 yards with seven touchdowns combined during his time with Denver (7 seasons) and the Los Angeles Chargers (3 seasons).

From Tulare, Calif., Green joined the Wolf Pack after retiring from the NFL following the 2020 season. Green returns to the Wolf Pack family with his wife Marianne Green and two children.
