RENO, Nev. — Nevada put together an 18‑hit performance and used a five‑run fourth inning to defeat No. 2 UNLV, 13–6, on Thursday night in the Mountain West Softball Championship at Christina M. Hixson Softball Park. The win moves the Wolf Pack into Friday's noon semifinal with a spot in the tournament final on the line.
Nevada delivered one of its most complete offensive performances of the season, scoring in six of seven innings.
Haylee Engelbrecht led the charge with a perfect 3-for-3 day, scoring three times and driving in a run, while
Talia Tretton added three hits, an RBI, and two walks.
Matlyn Leetch matched them with a 3-for-5 performance and three runs scored.
The Pack broke the game open in the fourth, stringing together five runs, including an RBI from Engelbrecht,
Karolyn Glover, and
Lexi O'Gorman. Nevada added three more in both the sixth and seventh to put the game out of reach.
In the circle,
Ainsley Berlingeri earned the win with 3.1 innings of relief, allowing just three hits and two runs while striking out four.
Tess Bumiller and
Sofie Seese combined with Berlingeri to hold the Rebels to nine hits.
Nevada moves on to face No. 1 GCU in Friday's semifinal at noon. The loser of that matchup will play again at 6 p.m. in an elimination game.
