RENO, Nev. -Â Three singles matches went into the third set in Wednesday's Mountain West dual between Nevada and New Mexico, but it would be the Lobos coming out on top, 4-0, at McArthur Tennis Center.
Nevada (9-8, 0-4 MW) heads to the state of Colorado for the weekend, taking on Air Force Saturday at 10 a.m. PT before closing the weekend with a non-conference dual Sunday at 10 a.m. PT at Denver.
Wednesday, the teams split the first two doubles matches, with
Rémy Trégourès and
Greg Valente taking a 6-2 win at No. 2. But the Lobos (7-13, 1-3 MW) would take the point as Philip Bosin and Dario Ciobotaru outlasted
Max Contet and
Axel Huysmans, 6-4, at No. 3.
The teams battled it out in singles as Nevada took the first set in three matches while Valente, at No. 4, came back for a second-set win to force a third. But New Mexico would take straight-sets wins at No. 5 then at No. 2 to push the Wolf Pack to the brink, and got the clinch with Jakub Prachar's three-set win over Valente at No. 4.
