Reno, Nev. - Don Weir Field at Peccole Park

WP: Alessandro Castro (3-2)
LP: Josh Donegan (0-1)

RENO, Nev. - Nevada batters slammed four homers and starter Alessandro Castro checked UNLV's lineup as the Wolf Pack took the series from the Rebels with a 9-1 victory Sunday at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park.

Castro improved to 3-2 in a strong 6.1-inning outing, striking out five Rebel batters and allowing just one run on six hits. The lefty retired eight in a row from the end of the second through the fourth, and during that span the Wolf Pack bats broke it open into a four-run lead.

It was Jake Harvey's three-run homer in the fourth which got Nevada's (23-17, 12-6 MW) home-run parade started and opened up a 4-0 lead against UNLV starter Josh Donegan. After Castro faced the minimum in the fifth thanks to an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play, Jacob Doyle hit his own three-run homer, his 14th long ball of the year, off of Rebel reliever Jase Evangelista to break the game open at 7-0.

Donegan took his first loss of the season, charged with four runs on six hits over four innings for UNLV (24-19, 7-11 MW).

Castro rolled through six before giving way to Dominic Desch with one out in the seventh after back-to-back UNLV doubles got the Rebels on the board. Desch allowed just an infield single in the eighth and struck out three in closing the final 2.1 innings.

Junhyuk Kwon, who finished 3-for-4, hit a solo homer which capped Nevada's scoring in the seventh. Jayce Dobie added a solo shot in the sixth. Doyle was 2-for-4 in addition to his three-run homer.

The only down note for the Pack on Sunday was the end of Mikey Cruz Jr.'s 24-game hitting streak. Cruz went 0-for-3 with a walk.
