RENO, Nev. - San José State evened the series with Nevada Saturday, scoring six times in the second inning to take an early lead and go on to the 12-6 win at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park.

The teams will play the rubber game Sunday at 12:05 p.m.

The Wolf Pack (18-13, 7-4 MW) had 14 hits on the day, led by a pair of four-hit games from Jayce Dobie and Jackson Waller. Dobie hit a solo homer and drove in three runs while Waller doubled twice and drove in a run.

The Spartans (14-20, 5-6 MW) dealt paper cut after paper cut to the Wolf Pack in its six-run second. Grounders found holes as the Spartans used three singles to open the scoring, the latter a bunt single from Matteo Mendoza.

After Rocco Caballero singled to load the bases, Alex Fernandes was hit by a pitch to force in a second run, then Peyton Fowles' grounder found the hole through the left side, scoring two to make it 4-0. JC Osorio-Agard capped the scoring with a two-run single to center.

Nevada starter Jordan Giacomini fell to 3-2 with the loss, giving up six runs on seven hits over 1.2 innings. Ryan Oakes came on in relief and threw 5.2 innings, striking out three.

Nevada tried to get back into the game, getting three runs in the fifth on Jack Metcho's RBI single and a two-run single from Dobie, followed by Waller's RBI double in the sixth. But the Spartans, leading 10-5, got a two-run single in the eighth from Alan Ramirez to put it out of reach.
