LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Nevada falls in overtime against UNLV, 85-83, at Thomas & Mack Center on Saturday evening.
Vaughn Weems led the Pack offense with a career high of 30 points and nine rebounds. Weems was followed by
Tayshawn Comer (15 points and three rebounds) and
Elijah Price (10 points and five rebounds).
As a team, the Pack shot 43 percent from the field, 50 percent from three, and 72 percent from the line.
On defense, Nevada had six different players record one steal, while
Elijah Price continued to make his impact by protecting the rim with two blocks.
The Pack won the points from the turnover battle, 23-15, and the bench points, 21-12. UNLV outscored Nevada 42-32 in the paint and points from second chances, 14-13.
First Half:
Nevada and UNLV battle through the opening half of the game.
The Pack had the largest lead of the game with 6 points after a made dunk after a fast break by
Vaughn Weems for an 18-12 score.
The Runnin' Rebels tied the game 35-35, but
Tayshawn Comer made two free throws to end the half with a 37-35 score for the Pack.
Second Half:
UNLV started off strong, putting up a seven-point lead to start the half.
Nevada fought back as they put a five-point lead after a Weems three-pointer jump shot.
The Runnin' Rebels did not back down as they were able to tie the game 74-74, after a Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn three-pointer to take the game to overtime.
Overtime:
UNLV continued their momentum as they gained the lead early in overtime with an 83-80 score.
Nevada was able to tie the game, 83-83, but UNLV scored a layup on a fast break to end the matchup 85-83.
Up Next:
The Pack will stay on the road, traveling to Laramie, Wyo., to face Wyoming on Tuesday, March 3.
