Nevada Softball dominates first day of the Capital Classic

DAVIS, Calif. – Nevada opened the Capital Classic with a 5-1 win over Sacred Heart and a 12-4 win over UC Davis.

Nevada continues Capital Classic play tomorrow with a two‑game schedule, opening against Santa Clara at 9:30 a.m. before returning to face UC Davis at noon.

Nevada and Sacred Heart opened with four scoreless innings before the Wolf Pack broke through in the fifth. Lexi O'Gorman hit an RBI triple, bringing Madison Clark home to give Nevada the first lead of the day. Sacred Heart answered in the top of the sixth to even the game at 1–1, but the Pack quickly reclaimed control. Haylee Engelbrecht delivered an RBI double, with Matlyn Leetch capitalizing to push Nevada back in front.

Nevada closed the bottom of the sixth, as Maddie Clark lined an RBI double to extend the lead. The Pack added on and finished the inning ahead 5–1, where the score would hold. Ainsley Berlingeri set the tone in the circle, working six strong innings while allowing just one run on four hits and striking out six.

Nevada struck early against UC Davis, starting with Katie Wetteland's RBI double that brought Madison Clark home for a 1–0 lead. The Aggies responded with two runs in the bottom of the first to go ahead 2–1, but the Pack quickly shifted the momentum. Hannah Di Genova stole home, and Leetch followed with an RBI to put Nevada back on top. Rylie Haith added an RBI single, stretching the lead to 5–2.

The Pack's biggest surge came in the sixth. Talia Tretton opened the inning with an RBI double, pushing the advantage to 7–3. Moments later, Leetch scored on a wild pitch, and Nevada continued to roll. Di Genova capped her standout day with a seventh‑inning home run to make it 11–4. Baillie Clark added an RBI single for the final 12–4 margin.
