SACRAMENTO, Calif. -Â Sunday's dual between Nevada and Sacramento State featured five tiebreakers and five of the six singles matches going to a third set, and it was the Wolf Pack which outlasted the Hornets, 5-2.
The Pack (4-0) swept doubles to take the first point, with the tandem of
Greg Valente and
Nicolas Recoura going the distance in a 7-6 (5) win over Gastti and Adryan Ballestero.
Max Contet picked up the only straight-sets victory of the six singles matches, beating David Dai 6-4, 6-4.
Each of the other three Nevada singles wins required a tiebreaker. At No. 2,
Rémy Trégourès won a third-set tiebreaker for a 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (5) victory, and Recoura also picked up a third-set tiebreaker win to get a 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (1) victory over Vlahos.
Despite dropping a second-set tiebreaker, Hermassi bounced back to beat Nick Bowles 6-2, 6-7 (4), 6-4.
The Wolf Pack returns to action in two weeks, traveling to San Luis Obispo, California where it will take on host Cal Poly (Feb. 6) and LMU (Feb. 7).
