Box Score MANHATTAN, Kans. - The second week of play took Nevada volleyball to Kansas to compete in the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Classic, falling in three straight sets to NC State on day one.
The Pack grabbed the first point of the game with an attack error by the opposing Wolfpack, before NC State went on a four-point run to grab the lead. Nevada then went on a run of its own to get within one, 5-6. Â
With the next play,
Nicanora Clarke landed a kill to tie the first set at six.Â
Nevada wasn't able to keep NC State at bay as they put together multiple scoring runs to pull ahead. The Pack ultimately dropped the first, 18-25.
Into the second, the Pack found themselves down by as much as 10 before bouncing back late in the set. At the tenth point, Nevada began to slowly climb back. An attack error by NC State, capped off by an ace by
Kinsley Singleton, cut the lead to seven. NC State scored one before Nevada had another three-point run, making the lead only five.Â
NC State attempted to add distance again, but Nevada wasn't giving up. The Pack came within two as
Jess Walkenhorst and
Mckaley Herr each got a kill, followed by an error from the other side, making the score 21-23. Despite the comeback, Nevada fell in set two with a score of 21-25.
Nevada kept the third close through the first half, tying the set twice and never letting NC State's lead grow to more than four until the 14th point. From there, the Pack struggled to keep up the momentum as they dropped the third set, 16-25.
Walkenhorst led the Pack in kills with six, followed by Herr with five and
Haylee Brown with four.
Kamryn Tifft led both teams in blocks with four, while
Audrey Jensen recorded 17 assists and Singleton tallied 10 digs.Â
Nevada will look to tie its record for the week as it takes on the host team, Kansas State, tomorrow at 10 AM.
