RENO, Nev. – Nevada women's soccer showed grit and determination Thursday night at Mackay Stadium, rallying with two late goals to secure a 2-2 draw against Cal Poly.

The first half was a defensive grind for the Pack, who managed just four shots to Cal Poly's 10. Despite the Mustangs controlling much of the possession, Nevada held strong to keep the match scoreless through the opening 45 minutes.

Cal Poly came out of halftime with momentum, breaking through in the 51st minute when Madelyn Dougherty found the back of the net. Just six minutes later, Julia Moore doubled the Mustang lead, putting Nevada in a 2-0 hole with just over 30 minutes to play.

The Wolf Pack refused to quit. Nevada's pressure mounted as the clock wound down, and the breakthrough came in the 85th minute when senior Jasmine Navarro slotted home a goal to cut the deficit in half.

The Pack's energy surged, and just two and a half minutes later, freshman Naima Castro delivered a highlight moment. Rising above the defense, Castro headed in the equalizer off a well-placed assist from Maddie Benson to tie the match at 2-2.

Both teams battled fiercely in the final minutes, but neither side could break through again as the contest ended in a draw.

"This team showed so much fight tonight," said head coach Vanessa Valentine. "Being down two goals and responding the way we did shows our character and belief. That's the kind of resilience we can build on moving forward."

With the result, Nevada now hits the road for a Sunday match up against Montana in Missoula.
