RENO, Nev. - Nevada won its second straight game Tuesday night, blanking NAIA Simpson University, 8-0, at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park.

The Wolf Pack (19-13) continues its five-game home stand with a three-game Mountain West series against San José State beginning Friday night at 6:05 p.m.

Tuesday, Jake Cumming got the start and led four Nevada pitchers in striking out nine Red Hawk batters and holding the opposing lineup to just three hits. Simpson's best opportunity to get on the scoreboard came in the fourth, when two hits and a walk loaded the bases with two out. Ryan Oakes came on in relief of Cumming and struck out Aden Munoz to end the threat.

Cumming went 3.2 innings, striking out three. Oakes, Zach Garber, and Eddie Tierney went the final 5.1 innings, combining to strike out six and allow just one hit.

Nevada opened the scoring with Billy Ham's RBI double off of Qorey Houston in the third, then broke it open with three more runs in the fourth. The Wolf Pack was methodical in its scoring that inning, getting sacrifice flies from Donovan Ratfield and Mason Hirata while Michael Ball came in on a wild pitch from Gavi Hughes.

Houston took the loss to fall to 3-4, charged with three runs on four hits over an inning of work.

Jacob Doyle delivered the big shot in the sixth, hitting a towering two-run homer to center to make it 6-0. Doyle would reach base in all four plate appearances, walking three times in addition to his homer. Junhyuk Kwon went 3-for-4 and scored twice, while Ball and Taylor Holder each had two hits. Ratfield drove in two runs with his sacrifice fly and by getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the seventh.
