Nevada completes weekend sweep over Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif. – Nevada Softball won its fourth straight conference game, sweeping its week in Mountain West play. Madison Clark finished the series seven-for-eight, while Saige Alfaro recorded her second multi-extra base hit game of the season.

The first three innings were a pure pitchers' battle with only five hits between the teams and one run coming from a Fresno State double in the second.

Nevada found its stride in the fourth inning. Alfaro led off the inning with a double to center field. A pair of fly outs moved Alfaro around the bases, to get the Pack on the board.

The Bulldogs threatened in the fourth inning with two runners in scoring position and one out. A tapped grounder looked to be a sure run for Fresno State, but Haley Painter made the quick throw to the plate where Aaliyah Jenkins made the tag to keep the game tied.

Jenkins led off the sixth inning with her fourth triple of the season. Alfaro followed with a triple of her own, marking the first back-to-back triples by Nevada batters since April 1, 2022.

Alfaro's triple scored Jenkins to give Nevada the lead. Hannah Di Genova doubled to the right field gap, scoring Alfaro.

Hailey McLean entered the game in the sixth, she got through the inning hitless, but saw a runner reach third after walking. In the seventh, two Bulldogs singled, but a pair of fly outs ended the game.

M. Clark singled three times, bringing her two-day total to seven hits in eight at-bats. Alfaro finished the game with two hits and a pair runs, and one RBI. Jenkins extended her on-base streak to 14 games with her triple. Haylee Engelbrecht got a hit in her fifth straight game with two singles.

Ainsley Berlingeri started the game only allowing two hits and a run in her two innings. Tess Bumiller got the win pitching three innings and allowing one hit and one walk. McLean closed the game for Nevada earning her second save of the week. McLean pitched two scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk.

Nevada enters the back stretch of the season with just four conference series remaining. The Pack travels to San Jose State next week for a three-game set in the South Bay. Game one is set for 6 p.m. on Friday, April 11. The following two games are scheduled for 3 p.m. and noon on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
