Sean Yamaguchi named Mountain West Freshman of the Week for third time

RENO, Nev. - Nevada infielder Sean Yamaguchi was named Mountain West Freshman of the Week for the second-straight week, and the third time this season, Monday.

Along with his player of the week honor March 31, Yamaguchi has now collected four weekly Mountain West awards in 2025.

This latest honor comes after Yamaguchi batted .467 (7-for-15) with a homer, three RBIs, eight runs scored, and five walks over Nevada's four games last week. The Wolf Pack captured its first Mountain West road series of 2025, taking two of three games at Washington State.

Over the series with the Cougars, Yamaguchi batted .500 (5-for-10) with a homer, six runs scored, two RBIs, and five walks. In Thursday's series-opening win, he went 1-for-3, walked thrice and scored three times, then followed up by going 3-for-3 with a solo homer, two walks, and three runs scored in Friday's 10-5, come-from-behind win.

With Nevada trailing 5-2 entering the eighth inning Friday, he led off the frame with a walk, as the Wolf Pack scored twice to cut the deficit to 5-4. In the ninth, got a one-out single to load the bases, as Nevada went on to score six runs to take a 10-5 lead.

Through 18 games of Mountain West action, Yamaguchi ranks in the top-10 in multiple offensive categories, including home runs (6, third), batting (.386, eighth), total bases (46, fifth), and runs scored (19, sixth).

Nevada (22-17, 10-8 MW) makes its second-straight weekend trip, heading to Air Force for a three-game series Friday-Sunday.
