SACRAMENTO, CALIF. – Nevada Softball goes 3-0 at Shea Stadium over the weekend picking up a Saturday win against Sacramento State, 7-2. Senior
Aaliyah Jenkins headlined the Pack win by going three-for-three with a home run, hit by pitch, and three RBI.
Nevada got going fast with a
Bailie Clark leadoff walk, extending her on-base streak to nine games. Clark stole second base and scored off a
Haley Painter double to the right-centerfield gap. Painter's double brings her on-base streak to 12 games.
Following Painter, Jenkins singled and advanced to second, giving the Pack second and third with no outs.
Hannah Di Genova pulled herself out of her hitting slump, singling and scoring Painter in the process.
Madison Clark singled through the left side to score Jenkins, putting the Pack up 3-0 after the top of the first. The Hornets got one run back in the bottom half of the inning, singling to left to score an earlier double.
Painter walked and Jenkins was hit by a pitch to start the third inning. A
Haylee Engelbrecht single drove in Painter with two outs.
In the fifth inning, Jenkins led off the inning with her fourth home run of the season, towering over left field. Sacramento State responded with their own home run to left field to score their only other run of the game.
Matlyn Leetch, playing in her first career start, singled up the middle to get the sixth inning going.
Lexi O'Gorman reached on a pinch-hit fielder's choice, with all runners reaching safely on the play thanks to a Hornets error. Jenkins got her third hit of the day, singling to center and scoring both Leetch and O'Gorman to score the Pack's sixth and seventh runs.
The Pack ended the game with a one, two, three inning from
Jessica McPartland, earning her first career save by doing so. McPartland finished the game for Nevada, pitching three innings, and striking out two while only giving up the fifth-inning home run.
Hailey McLean got her seventh victory over the season pitching four innings in her start. McLean only allowed three hits and a run, striking out four Hornets.
Despite Jenkins's day,
Tatum Maytorena may have been the flashiest member of the Pack, making four stellar plays in the right field. Maytorena made two running catches in right field foul territory in addition to stealing a ball in the gap and robbing a home run in the seventh inning.
Nevada closes the Capital Classic tomorrow with a pair of games at La Rue Field in Davis. The Pack is scheduled to take on Santa Clara at 9:30 a.m., followed immediately by a game against the host UC Davis Aggies at noon.
