This Week in Wolf Pack Athletics

RENO, Nev. - The late-February weather is cooperating in Reno, especially ahead of an exciting home weekend for Nevada Athletics.

Women's Tennis, off to a 5-1 start in 2025, opens its home slate Sunday with a 12 p.m. match against Sacramento State at McArthur Tennis Center. Nevada Baseball, fresh off a four-game series win over CSU Bakersfield last weekend, rolls right into another four-game series at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park, hosting Northern Colorado beginning Friday at 2:05 p.m.

Softball and Men's Tennis hit the road for competition this weekend. Nevada Softball, 11-4 early on this season, travels to Sacramento for five games, starting the weekend Friday with games against Santa Clara and host Sacramento State. Men's Tennis travels to La Jolla, Calif., beginning action Thursday against Cal Poly.

Nevada (4-4), fresh off a four-game series win at home over CSU Bakersfield, hosts Northern Colorado for another four-game series at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park.

The weekend series begins Friday at 2:05 p.m., with a Saturday doubleheader scheduled to begin with Game 1's 11:05 a.m. first pitch.

Nevada captured the final two games of the series against CSU Bakersfield last weekend, rolling to a 12-4 victory Sunday then clinching the series with a 7-4 win Monday afternoon. Monday, Jacob Doyle and Billy Ham brought the bats, each getting three hits while Donovan Ratfield hit his first home run of the season.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

Sunday, Mar. 2 vs Sacramento State - 12 p.m. - Live Results

Wolf Pack women's tennis makes its home opener on Sunday at 12 p.m. against Sacramento State (7-0). Nevada (5-1) is looking to extend its five match winning streak, coming off of a 4-1 victory over UC Riverside.

Wiem Boubaker went 4-0 across the Wolf Pack's two victories last week, not losing a set in any of her four matches. Silvia-Maria Costache went undefeated in singles play, picking up two key victories for the Wolf Pack.

Sacramento State enters the week undefeated at 7-0. The Hornets have won key matches against Fresno State, LMU, and Cal State Fullerton. Elena Mercioiu is 8-0 for Sacramento State in singles and doubles play combined, tied for the team lead in overall victories this spring.

Nevada Softball returns to California for the Capital Classic, splitting the weekend in Sacramento and Davis. The Wolf Pack just wrapped up the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, going 3-2 to move to 11-4 on the season.

The "Hay-lee"s dominated the weekend for Wolf Pack. Haylee Engelbrecht led the Wolf Pack with a weekend .563 batting average, hitting her first two home runs of the season and tallying four RBI. Haley Painter led the Pack in home runs, hitting three including a two-home run game where she hit a walk-off home run against Bethune Cookman. Hailey McLean once again dominated batters, striking out 19 in 12.1 innings pitch. McLean struck out 15 in seven innings in the Pack's loss to Hawai'i.

Santa Clara (7-3) has won seven of its last eight and is riding a four-game winning streak into the Capital Classic. The Broncos scored a lot last week, averaging 10.2 runs per game and run-ruling three teams. Sacramento State (8-5) started the season hot with a 6-1 record, but hit a wall losing their last three games in Hawai'i. The Hornets have since won a series against Cal Poly and will play two more games before the weekend tournament. UC Davis (5-9) has played a tough 14 games with six coming against ranked opponent. The Aggies have lost six straight, with two losses against Stanford and Arizona, one to No.1 Texas, and an extra inning loss to Colorado State.

MEN'S TENNIS

Nevada Men's Tennis will start the week with a neutral site match in La Jolla against Cal Poly (3-6). The match will be on the campus of UC San Diego and is scheduled for 2 p.m. The Wolf Pack will then send four doubles pairs to the Pacific Coast Men's Doubles Championships, hosted by the USTA and La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club.

The Mustangs snapped their three-match losing streak, Sunday, with a 4-3 victory over Idaho. Cal Poly shares a common win with Nevada against Gonzaga; the Mustangs won their match, 4-1, while Nevada won 4-3.

The Pacific Coast Men's Doubles Championships is expected to start on Friday, while the possibility of preliminary draws taking place on Thursday. The Wolf Pack's four pairs will be Axel Huysmans/Greg Valente, Youssef Kadiri/Lucas Hammond, Rayen Hermassi/Paul Théate, and Rémy Trégourès/Max Contet.
