Ferris, Batbayar capture golds at Mountain West Championships

2025 Mountain West Swimming & Diving Championships - Day 3
Friday, Feb. 21, 2025
Houston, Texas - CRWC Natatorium

HOUSTON - Nevada added two more gold medals to its haul on the third night of the Mountain West Swimming and Diving Championships, as Enkhkhuslen Batbayar took the 200 free title and Scarlett Ferris successfully defended her 100 back crown.

On the team standings, Nevada remained in third place. The Wolf Pack, with 701 points, trails leader San Diego State (835 points) and UNLV (797) heading into Saturday's final day.

Ferris continued her outstanding 2025 meet, bringing in three medals Friday alone as she took silver in the 100 fly and bronze as part of Nevada's 200 free relay. The three medals bring her meet haul to five—one gold, two silver, and two bronze.

Swimming in the first heat of the 100 fly competition Friday morning, Ferris came in a 53.32, with the time easily surviving ensuing heats to qualify for the championship final. There, Ferris went stroke for stroke with UNLV's Maria Fernanda Mendez Guerra, but was out-touched by 0.13 of a second and settled for silver.

She would leave no doubt, however, in her signature event, the 100 back. While Ferris, the Mountain West record holder in the event, did not beat her standard, she easily distanced herself from the group in prelims, then cruised to a second-straight gold medal in 51.95 in the final.

Enkhkhuslen, after coming close to her first Mountain West gold on the previous two nights of the meet, finally broke through in Friday night's 200 free final. Qualifying third out of prelims, Enkhkhuslen rallied from third position with 50 yards to go, finishing that stretch in 26.26 to overcome UNLV's Erika Carlson and Wyoming's Tara Joyce for gold in a final time of 1:45.66.

In the 200 free relay, Ferris swam a third-leg time of 21.79 to put Nevada in the lead by just over four-tenths of a second, but on the anchor, San Diego State and Washington State edged out the Wolf Pack's Noelle Harvey for the first two spots on the podium, and Nevada took bronze in a school-record time of 1:30.04.

Yasmin Perry (fifth, 100 fly), Sara Mihalic (sixth, 100 breast), and Riley Parker (seventh, 100 back) also made championship finals Friday night to boost the Pack's team score, while Sally Vagg captured the B Final of the 100 fly and took second in the 200 free B Final for a pair of top-10 finishes.

The final seven events of the meet are set for Saturday, with prelims beginning at 8:30 a.m. PT and the finals session at 4 p.m. PT.
