HOUSTON – Nevada Softball closed out the Easton Classic II with an 8-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Panthers. The win was the Wolf Pack's fourth of the weekend and second against a power opponent.

Hailey McLean got the start for the Wolf Pack, winning yet another game, getting her sixth win of the season in seven appearances. McLean went to work early, striking out the first batter of the day and closing the first inning with another strikeout.

Pittsburgh got on the board first. A lead-off double in the third inning set up Pittsburgh for an RBI double to left field two batters later, putting the Panthers ahead.

Nevada responded immediately with a lead-off double up the middle from Haylee Engelbrecht for the first hit of the game for the Wolf Pack. Maya Larsen sacrifice bunted Engelbrecht into scoring position, allowing Engelbrecht to score the next play off a Bailie Clark single.

With her sister on second, Madison Clark singled with a bunt and stole second to set up Haley Painter for a base-clearing single to give Painter eight RBI on the weekend.

The next inning, Engelbrecht reached base via a walk and advanced to the second thanks to a Larsen single. B. Clark tripled to left center field to score both Engelbrecht and Larsen. M. Clark drove in her younger sister with a sacrifice bunt to give the Pack a 6-1 lead.

Hannah Di Genova walked to lead off the fifth inning before being pinch run for by Matlyn Leetch. Leetch made her way around the base paths, stealing second, and advancing twice on ground balls. Leetch scored on an O'Gorman grounder to extend the Nevada lead to six.

The Clark sisters combined again in the sixth inning, each walking themselves aboard. A successful double steal and a fielding error on the throw down to third allowed B. Clark to score.

McLean pitched four innings for Nevada, allowing just one run and striking out five. McLean finished the weekend with 17.2 innings pitched, 26 strikeouts, and a 0.79 ERA with a 3-0 record in Houston. Tess Bumiller relieved McLean, pitching two innings and only allowing one hit and a walk. Jessica McPartland closed the game for the Pack with a near-perfect inning, getting two lineouts and a groundout on just four pitches.

Nevada heads to Cathedral City next week for the Mary Nutter Classic. The Wolf Pack will open the weekend at 10 a.m. on Thursday against No. 23 Baylor. Nevada will also play Bethune-Cookman, UC Riverside, Hawai'i, and CSUN throughout the weekend.
