HOUSTON – Nevada Softball split day two at the Easton Classic II, defeating Incarnate Word 6-4, and falling 6-1 to Houston. Haley Painter had herself a day hitting two home runs and tallying six RBI, making jumps in the Nevada record book.

Nevada 6, Incarnate Word 4
The Wolf Pack made some lineup changes, giving Avery Cordell her first career start the day after she hit her first career home run. Other shifts saw Aaliyah Jenkins go to right field and Alycia Coats get the start behind the plate.

Nevada got an early opportunity with bases loaded in the first inning but couldn't score any runs in the opening frame. An Incarnate Word lead-off single turned into a run for the Cardinals after the leadoff batter stole second and was driven in by the following hitter.

Bailie Clark would get that run back for Nevada, leading off with a single of her own, followed by a Haylee Engelbrecht single, to move B. Clark around to third. A double steal caught Incarnate Word sleeping, allowing B. Clark to score, tying the game for Nevada.

The Painter show started in the fourth inning. After Tatum Maytorena singled the get the inning started for Nevada, M. Clark and Jenkins each walked to load the bases for Painter. The redshirt junior took full advantage, doubling to right and clearing the bases to put the Pack up 4-1.

Incarnate Word responded in the fifth inning with a double down the left field line to score a run. They added on another run the next play with a runner crossing the plate before the second out of a 6-3-5 double play.

Painter capped off her five RBI game with a home run to center field to score Madison Clark. The home run was Painter's third of the season and first of the weekend.

The Cardinals grabbed one more run to end the game with an infield single to short, but their seventh inning efforts wouldn't be enough to overcome the Pack's lead.

The Wolf Pack pitching staff threw a great win with three pitchers going at least two innings each. Tess Bumiller got the start for Nevada, going 2.2 innings and allowing just one run on five hits. Jessica McPartland relieved Bumiller and got the credit for her first career win. McPartland faced nine batters and gave up two runs on two hits in 2.1 innings. Ainsley Berlingeri closed the night for the staff and picked up the first save of the season for a Nevada pitcher. Berlingeri struck out two batters in her 2.0 innings.

Nevada 1, Houston 6
Houston got a similar start to Saturday night's game as they did Friday night, drawing walks to load the bases and score. A second-inning lead-off double would come around to score for Houston to open the night's scoring. In the third, the Cougars drew a walk, reached on an error, and singled to load the bases. Four straight RBI walks ballooned the Houston lead to 5-0. A sacrifice fly would bring the inning total to five and give Houston a 6-0 lead.

The Wolf Pack were able to get one run back in the sixth inning when Painter hit her second of the day for her sixth RBI. Painter's homer was the 25th of her career and moved her into a tie for seventh place all-time in program history.
Maytorena and Painter led the Pack each with two hits, the only hit-getters of the game for Nevada.

McPartland got the start for Nevada, pitching two innings in two stints. McPartland allowed two hits and three walks, giving up four runs, three of which were earned. McPartland was charged with the loss for the game. Berlingeri made a brief appearance, walking two batters who would score, before McPartland returned to the game. Hailey McLean entered for Nevada deep into the third with no outs. McLean pitched four scoreless innings striking out four while allowing three hits and two walks.

Nevada will wrap up the Easton Classic II tomorrow with a 7:30 a.m. PT game against Pittsburgh.
