Nevada drops first Mountain West game of season to Colorado State

Box Score RENO, Nev. - Nevada women's basketball began Mountain West play on Wednesday night, falling to Colorado State, 61-48.

The Pack hung with the Rams through the first half, only trailing by five at the break. Nearly half way through the second quarter, Nevada tied it up at 15 off of a three by Amelia Raidaveta, which led to their first lead when Ahrray Young knocked down one of her own.

Nevada held Colorado State to just 33.4 percent shooting from the paint and 12.5 percent from three in the first half.

While the Pack's shooting improved in the second half from 33.8 to 47.8 and they lessened their turnovers to just three, the Rams also began to shoot better, eventually creating distance.

Rebounds and second chance points by Colorado State hurt Nevada as the Rams had 36 boards and 16 points off of put backs.

The Pack dominated in bench points with 25 compared to 9. Nevada also had five steals, while Colorado State had four.

Gabby Ramos led the bench scoring with 11 points, going 4-for-5 from the paint and 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. Young led in scoring overall with 13 points and shooting 50 percent from the paint. Amelia Raidaveta had a perfect night, dropping a season high eight points after shooting 2-for-2 from inside, 1-for-1 from three and 3-for-3 from the charity stripe.

Nevada will next face Air Force on the road, Saturday at 12 p.m. PT.
