Nevada opens season with home win over Cal State San Marcos

Box Score RENO, Nev. - Nevada women's basketball opened its 2025-26 season on Monday night at home against Cal State San Marcos, downing the Cougars with a final score of 70-53.

Quarter one was a close contest as Cal State San Marcos scored the opening points before Nevada quickly tied it up off a layup by Imbie Jones. The teams continued to trade baskets as they each fought for the advantage.

Heading into the second, the game was all knotted up at 15.

Nevada struggled to get shots to fall in the second, only getting two points through the first three minutes. Defensively, the Pack didn't allow the Cougars to score for four straight minutes.

The pace picked up late in the second as Izzy Sullivan gave Nevada its largest lead of five in the first 20 with a made layup.

After Cal State San Marcos cut it back to within four, Nevada was up, 32-28, going into the break.

Ahrray Young and Skylar Durley combined to extend the lead with back-to-back layups to open the third quarter. From there, Nevada began to find its rhythm, pushing the advantage to 19. On the other end, Cal State San Marcos was held to just eight points in the third quarter.

Into the final 10, the Pack held a commanding 54-36 lead. Nevada didn't let up, continuing to force turnovers and produce on offense, ultimately grabbing the victory.

The Pack were led by Young's all-around performance of 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists and a steal. Nevada outscored the Cougars in three of four quarters, including a decisive 22–8 third quarter that broke the game open.

Tahj-Monet Bloom made an immediate impact off the bench, contributing 11 points and six rebounds in just under 18 minutes of play. Durley added 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals, while Izzy Sullivan chipped in 10 points, four assists and two steals.

Nevada's defense was relentless, forcing 20 turnovers and converting them into 13 points. The Pack dominated the paint, outscoring San Marcos 44–14 inside and grabbing 25 second-chance points off 23 offensive rebounds.

Nevada will hit the road for its first away game of the season on Thursday, facing Sacramento State at 11 AM.
