RENO, Nev. (AP) — The Nevada defense forced five turnovers, and the Wolf Pack turned those into 24 points en route to a 55-10 rout of San José State Saturday.
It was the defensive side of the ball that got the Wolf Pack (2-8, 1-5 Mountain West) going when Nakian Jackson intercepted Walker Eget and ran it back 66 yards for the game's first score. It was the first of three interceptions for Eget.
Murvin Kenion III intercepted two passes, including one which he returned to the Spartan 13, setting up Chubba Purdy's 13-yard scoring run. Bryson Snelling added a fourth interception late.
The Wolf Pack defense forced a Spartan fumble on the second play of the ensuing possession following Jackson's pick-six. Carter Jones capped the five-play, 30-yard drive with a seven-yard pass to Purdy to make it 14-0 Nevada. Nevada pushed the lead to 31-0 at halftime.
Jones threw for 195 yards and two touchdowns and Caleb Ramseur ran for 128 yards and a touchdown. Freshman Dominic Kelley added a late touchdown on the ground.
Jones completed 16-of-19 passes and Ramseur amassed his rushing total in 20 carries. Purdy ran for 51 yards and a score while adding his receiving touchdown.
Tama Amisone's 12-yard scoring run with 1:23 left in the game was the Spartans' (3-7, 2-4) only touchdown.
Nevada would complete a game in which it scored touchdowns on offense, defense, and special teams when Ky Woods ran the ensuing kickoff back 99 yards for the game's final score.
