Box Score RENO, Nev. - Nevada women's basketball hosted LMU in the first of two 'When I Grow Up' games this season, downing the Lions after second-half surge, 56-52.
The Lions came out with the first bucket before the Pack took it to the other end and tied it up off a layup by
Kendra Hicks.
Izzy Sullivan followed it up with a jumper to give Nevada its first lead.
From there, it was a defensive battle. Neither team was able to get a shot to fall for three minutes. The Pack found themselves down by four with twenty three seconds left, before a three-point play by
Gabby Ramos cut the lead to one. Into the second quarter, Nevada was trailing, 11-12.
Nevada had a new energy in the second quarter with an 8-0 scoring run to open it up and holding LMU to no points through the first five minutes. Despite the surge, LMU had one of its own, tying the score at 19 before taking the lead.
At the start of the third quarter, the Pack were trailing by just one, 24-25.
Makayla Carter knocked down the first points of the second half, giving Nevada the momentum to gain control. The Pack outscored the Lions in the third, 18-12, keeping the lead through the entire 10 minutes.
Into the final quarter, Nevada had the advantage, 42-37.
The Pack saw its largest lead of the game come in the fourth, as Carter and
Ahrray Young each gave them an eight-point advantage. Nevada continued to hold off LMU through eight minutes of play, before the Lions brought it back within one.
Despite the push from the Lions, Young and
Izzy Sullivan combined to put the game away.
Sullivan led the Pack in scoring with 15 points, with three rebounds and two assists. Young contributed with 10 points, five rebounds and two assists.
Nevada will now go on the road to face Saint Mary's on Sunday at 2 PM.
