LAS VEGAS - Nevada Men's Tennis' first day of competition at the Mountain West Fall Qualifiers in Las Vegas was highlighted by each Wolf Pack doubles tandem picking up a first-round victory.

The team of Rayen Hermassi and Axel Huysmans advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals with an 8-5 victory over Utah State's Xavier Calvelo and Roman Venger, and were joined by teammates Nicolas Recoura and Rémy Trégourès, who defeated UNLV's Vitaliy Horovoy and Joel Gibson, 8-6.

Quarterfinal doubles action is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Hermassi and Huysmans will face the top-seeded tandem of Lars Johann and Aleksi Lofman of San Diego State, while Recoura and Trégourès take on No. 2 seed Jakub Pracher and Tyler Waddock of New Mexico.

In singles action, Max Contet was the only Nevada player to advance to the second round, taking the decisive third set to beat Johann, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. But Contet's run in the main draw came to an end in the afternoon's second round with a 6-3, 6-4 loss to Horovoy.

Hermassi and Huysmans bounced back from opening-round defeats to capture wins in the consolation round of 16. Hermassi was up 4-1 in the first set against San Diego State's Imran Daniel Abdul Hazli before Hazli was forced to retire, and Huysmans beat San Diego State's Brock Anderson, 6-3, 7-6 (4).
