Jarod Lucas Returns to Nevada Men’s Basketball as Assistant Coach

RENO, Nev. — Nevada Men's Basketball announced today that former Wolf Pack standout Jarod Lucas has returned to the program as an assistant coach. A key figure on Nevada's back-to-back NCAA Tournament teams (2023, 2024), Lucas is ready to contribute across the entire roster.

"What an incredible day for our program! We're thrilled to welcome back one of our best players, Jarod, to our coaching staff. His passion for Reno and the university is truly inspiring, and we can't wait to see the positive impact he'll have on our players every day!" enthuses Coach Steve Alford.

During his Nevada career (2022–24), Lucas:
  • Led the Pack in scoring in both seasons while guiding Nevada to consecutive 20-win campaigns and March Madness berths.
  • Earned All-Mountain West recognition and developed a reputation for clutch, late-game shot making.
  • Ranked among conference leaders in three-pointers and free-throw percentage, and served as a respected team captain.
  • Helped restore Nevada's national postseason profile with consistent efficiency and poise.

"I'm grateful to be back in Reno," Lucas said. "Nevada shaped me on and off the court. I'm excited to help our guys grow and to do my part for this roster and this community."

As part of today's update, Nevada also announced that assistant coach Kyle Guy is pursuing a professional playing opportunity and will no longer be with the program. "We are grateful for all of Kyle's efforts this summer in helping our program. The staff and players are very excited for Kyle and his opportunity with the Indiana Pacers organization," Alford said.
