Box Score BOISE, Idaho – Max Content and Greg Valente defeated a Pacific Northwest duo and BYU pair en route to a fourth-place finish in the Pack's season opener.
 
Nevada Men's Tennis opened the fall season in Boise at the Dar Walters Classic, last week. The tournament puts two doubles pairs in a pod to compete in a best-of-three series: a doubles match and two singles matches. The pair that wins two of three advances to the next round. The tournament is split into a blue and orange draw.
 
Contet, a freshman from Cagnes-sur-Mer, France, paired with Valente, one of the Pack's three returning players. The French duo opened their run against the mixed-school duo of Noe De Col from Idaho and Tannor Bindor from Portland. Content and Valente dropped the doubles match against De Col and Bindor, 6-4, but both rallied in their singles match to win the series, 2-1. Contet defeated Bindor, 7-6, 6-4, and Valente topped De Col, 7-6, 6-3.
 
In the second round, Contet and Valente took on BYU's Adam Chodur and Alex Edmonston, downing the Cougar pair, 2-1. Contet and Valente won a long tiebreaker to win the doubles match, 7-6 (7). Contet clinched the series by defeating Chodur, 6-4, 7-6 (3).
 
Contet and Valente fell in the third round to Weber State's Connor Kruger and William Zulch, being swept by the Wildcats. Kruger and Zulch won the doubles match 6-2, before both Weber State players won the singles matches in straight sets.
 
In the third-place match, Quentin LaMothe and Sam Wensley defeated Contet and Valente, taking the podium position over Nevada. LaMothe and Wensley defeated the Pack duo, 6-2 in the doubles match. Wensley clinched the dual with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Valente. Contet pulled back a consolation win over LaMothe, 6-3, 1-6, [10-6].
 
Axel Huysmans and Rayen Hermassi both made their Wolf Pack debuts after getting a first-round bye in the orange draw. The duo won their doubles match, defeating Idaho State's Quentin LaMothe and Sam Wensley, 6-4. LaMothe and Wensley defeated Huysmans and Hermassi, respectively, in their singles matches. Huysmans forced LaMothe to a third set, ultimately dropping the match, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. Hermassi fell in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 to Wensley.
 
Huysmans and Hermassi lost their consolation matches to close out the tournament. The newcomer pairing fell 3-0 to Portland's Tom Garcia and Kimelman, followed by a 2-1 loss to Andre Stewart and Harrison Janes of Montana State.
 
San Francisco Graduate transfer Paul Théate paired with Rémy Trégourès in the blue draw. Théate and Trégourès matched up against Idaho's Sebastian Medica and Francisco Gay and lost their doubles match, 6-4. Trégourès won a third-set tiebreaker over Medica, 6-2, 0-6, 7-6 (3), but Gay defeated Theat, 0-6, 6-1, 6-3 to win the series for the Vandals.
 
Théate and Trégourès lost their third-round consolation match to Dmitry Bezborodov and Nishant Dabas, 3-0. The Pack pair won their final match of the tournament against Idaho's Gabriel Moroder and Chetanna Amadike. Théate and Trégourès defeated the Vandals in the doubles match, 6-4. Théate won his singles match against Moroder, 4-6, 6-0, 6-2.
 
The Pack's final pairing consisted of senior Youssef Kadiri and graduate transfer Lucas Hammond. Hammond and Kadiri lost their doubles match against Portland's Max Groysman and Cade Fernando, 7-5. Hammond won his first singles match with the Pack, downing Fernando, 2-6, 6-3, [10-3]. Groysman defeated Kadiri, 6-3, 6-4, to clinch Portland's spot in the second round.
 
Kadiri and Hammond bounced back in the consolation draw, sweeping Air Force's Matthew Staton and Kyler Garner. Nevada won the doubles match, 6-4, followed by a pair of straight-set victories with Hammond defeating Staton, 6-1, 6-3, and Kadiri beating Garner, 6-2, 6-4.
 
Hammond and Kadiri continued their winning ways, defeating Weber State's Liam Day and Tuan Min, 3-0. Hammond/Kadiri won the doubles match 6-2 over the Wildcats. Hammond defeated Day, 6-4, 6-4, while Kadiri won his match over Minh, 6-0, 6-2.
 
The senior pairing won their fourth and final match over Bezborodov and Dabas, sweeping the Bobcats. Hammond and Kadiri won the doubles match, 6-2. The dual was clinched for the Wolf Pack when Dabas was forced to retire due to injury, giving Kadiri with 6-2, 4-3, win due to injury. Hammond closed out the sweep in a tiebreaker, defeating Bezbordov, 3-6, 6-3, [11-9].
 
The Pack will return to action on September 27 at the UC Davis Invitational.
