Patrick Garwo III among 2024 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team nominees

RENO, Nev. - Nevada running back Patrick Garwo III was named among the nominees for the 2024 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, Wednesday.

Established in 1992, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team recognizes college football athletes for their unwavering commitment to community service and their "good works" off the field. This year's 178 nominees champion causes including mental health awareness, youth mentorship, hunger relief, domestic abuse prevention, and many more. In addition to being actively involved with a charitable organization or service group, each player must also maintain strong academic standing to be considered for a spot on the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.

Garwo III is set to make his Wolf Pack debut this fall. The sixth-year running back spent his first five seasons at Boston College, where he was named to the All-ACC Second Team in 2021. The Levittown, Pa., native rushed for 1,913 yards and 11 touchdowns over his five seasons (2019-23) with the Eagles, also earning All-New England honors from the New England Football Writers in 2021.

Out of the 178 nominees for the honor, the final roster of 23 AFCA Allstate Good Works Team award recipients announced later in September will bring together:
  • 11 players from the NCAA FBS
  • 11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), Divisions II, III and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA)
  • 1 honorary head coach

All members are selected by a voting panel of former Allstate AFCA Good Works Team members, current and former head coaches and journalists who look for exceptional leadership on and off the football field.

Nevada will Launch the Jeff Choate Era Saturday, Aug. 24, when it hosts new ACC member SMU at 5 p.m. at Mackay Stadium. Choate spent the past three seasons (2021-23) as co-defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach at Texas, helping lead the Longhorns to a Big XII title and College Football Playoff appearance in 2023. Prior to his time in Austin, Choate served as head coach at Montana State from 2016-20, leading the Bobcats to a pair of FCS playoff berths, including a run to the semifinals in 2019.

Nevada Football's "Drive For 25," a message to Wolf Pack fans to get Mackay Stadium to at least 25,000 attendees for the Aug. 24 opener against SMU, continues its push as season ticket prices for 2024 begin for as low as $99 for adults and $60 for children 12 and under. Family 4-PACK's are also available and include four General Admission season tickets and complimentary parking for only $400—a total savings of $200. Three-game mini-plans and single-game tickets for the Pack's first three home contests (SMU, Sept. 7 vs. Georgia Southern, Sept. 21 vs. Eastern Washington) are also available by visiting MyNevadaTickets.com or by calling (775) 348-PACK.
