LAS VEGAS – A late surge by San Diego State knocks the Wolf Pack out of the Mountain West Championships.

San Diego State jumped out to an early lead, winning the doubles point in split fashion. Nevada won the court two match with
Loris Zisswiller and
Rémy Trégourès's 6-1 victory over Robin Parts and Alexander Mandma. Johannes Seeman and Eugenio Gonzalez tied the session for the Aztecs, defeating
Matheo Coupu and
Youssef Kadiri, 6-2. San Diego State clinched the doubles point on court three when Bora Sengul and Chikaya Sato defeated
Edgar Destouet and
Greg Valente, 6-4.

The Aztecs tripled their lead with a pair of straight-set victories. Mandma broke Valente six times en route to a 6-2, 6-1 victory on court six. Parts defeated Trégourès 6-4, 6-3, on court five, bringing the Aztecs within a point of clinching.

Nevada earned its sole point from Destouet's 7-5, 6-4, victory against Sato. Destouet broke Sato three times in his court four victory.

San Diego State clinched their spot in the semifinals when Seeman completed his comeback victory against Coupu. In the first set, Coupu won four straight games, eventually sealing the first set, 6-3. In the second set, Seeman earned a quick 3-0 lead with help from Coupu double-faulting to give Seeman a break. Coupu fought back to tie the set but ultimately Seeman tied the match with a 6-4 set victory. Coupu held a 3-1 lead in the final set, but Seeman broke Coupu twice, including a double fault on the deciding point, defeating Nevada's top man, 6-3 in the final set.

Courts two and three were abandoned in the third set. Zisswiller won the first set over Sengul, 6-3, before Sengul returned with his own 6-3 win. The final set concluded with Sengul leading 4-3. Kadiri dropped set one, 6-2, to Gonzalez, but tied the match with a 6-4 win in set two. Gonzalez led the match with a 4-2 lead in set three when the dual was clinched.

Nevada finishes the season with a 6-14 overall record with Coupu leading the team with 11 singles victories. Trégourès and Zisswiller led the team with 11 doubles victories when paired together. San Diego State will face top-seeded Utah State in the semifinal, tomorrow.
