LAS VEGAS – Nevada Women's Tennis is set to begin its Mountain West Championships run Thursday morning at 10 a.m. against the UNLV Rebels. The conference tournament will be held at the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas.
 
The Wolf Pack earned a first-round bye with the team's first winning record in conference play since 2013. The Pack's 5-4 Mountain West conference record was supported by a 4-0 home record in conference matches.
 
Thursday's match will be a rematch of the March 22 match at UNLV. In the regular season meeting, UNLV won the doubles points convincingly and took a 3-1 lead over the Pack. Nevada fought back to tie the dual with wins from Amahee Charrier and Lou-Anne Guerbert but ultimately fell short of completing the comeback. Nevada's star freshman Kennedy Robinson held a three-game lead in the third set, however, Aura Fang erased the Nevada lead, clinching the dual for UNLV, 4-3.
 
UNLV boasts an impressive resume, beginning the season at the ITA Kickoff Weekend, playing the likes of Maryland and Colorado. UNLV finished 7-3 in Mountain West play with their token win coming in the season finale against No. 60 San Diego State, defeating the Aztecs, 4-3. UNLV's three losses all came against top-six teams, losing to conference champions New Mexico, as well as Wyoming and Colorado State.
 
The Rebels were strong throughout the lineup, holding a winning record in five of the six lineup positions. UNLV's best position this season has been flight five, with 12-3 overall record, led by Coco Zhao's 8-2 season in fifth slot. Only Zita Kovacs has appeared in the the top-flight for UNLV, she is expected to play either Charrier or Marlene Foerster, the two Nevada players who have appeared in the No. 1 position. UNLV also holds a winning record in all three doubles positions, remaining consistent with the same pairs in the same positions all throughout the dual season.
