Nevada earned the five-seed on the final day of the season with the Pack's 4-3 win over UNLV. The Pack's thrilling victory over the Rebels, along with their prior win against San Diego State were the Pack's only two conference victories of the season. Nevada's non-conference season was filled with power-five and ranked opponents, going 0-7 against non-conference opponents fitting either category. Including the three ranked Mountain West opponents, the Pack was 0-10 against power-conference and ranked opposition. Nevada was 6-3 against all other teams, with key wins against UC San Diego, 4-3, and Grand Canyon, 4-3.

San Diego State posted an impressive 14-6 record, including a 6-3 record against common opponents with Nevada, compared to the Pack's 2-7 record in those same matches. The Aztecs defeated BYU, 4-3, to open the season, followed by other non-conference victories against San Francisco, 4-3, and Saint Mary's, 4-0. In conference play, San Diego State defeated Air Force, 5-2, and New Mexico, 4-3, both opponents that defeated Nevada. The Aztecs are bottom-heavy, with a combined 38-10 record in flights four, five, and six. San Diego State has struggled in top-flight matches, with Johannes Seeman putting together a 2-13 record when playing top-flight singles. The Aztecs are a strong doubles team, winning 14 of 20 doubles points and combining for a 31-18 overall doubles record in dual matches.
