Claudia Herrero named to Mountain West 25th Season Team

RENO, Nev. – Nevada Women's Tennis alumnus Claudia Herrero was named to the Mountain West's 25th Season Women's Tennis Team, announced by the conference Monday.

A native of Salamanca, Spain, Herrero played three seasons for the Pack, immediately proving to be one of the best in Nevada history. In 2016, her first season with Nevada, Herrero tied Tracy King's program record of 24 singles victories in a season, a mark that still holds, today. Herrero played top-flight singles, finishing 14-4 in duals and 10-2 in tournament play, earning a spot on the All-Mountain West Singles Team. Herrero also shined in doubles play, earning 16 wins with Andrianna Gergelyova, the sixth-best season in Wolf Pack history.

In her junior season, Herrero made history again, becoming the first player in program history to be named Mountain West Player of the Year. In the 2017 season, Herrero won the ITA Mountain Regional, earning a bid to the USA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships. Herrero racked up 18 more singles wins in her second season with the Pack, sealing her spot on another All-Mountain West Singles Team.

In her final season with Nevada, Herrero made both the All-Mountain West Singles Team and Doubles Team. She finished the season with 18 singles wins, finishing her Nevada career with a 60-30 singles record. Herrero paired with Blaga Delic for 16 doubles victories, tying her tally from her sophomore season for the sixth most in a Nevada season. Herrero was invited to the All-American Championship and made the semifinal of the ITA Regionals.

Herrero's 60 singles victories are the sixth most in program history with all three of her seasons ranking in the top 15 on the single-season singles wins list. Herrero appears twice on the Nevada all-time doubles victories list, once with Gergelyova with 21 career wins, as well as with Delic whom she won 17 matches when paired with.
