Stockton, Calif. - Bill Simoni Field
STOCKTON, Calif. - Nevada Softball concluded the Libby Matson Tournament with 15 runs, eight extra-base hits, and hit around in three innings en route to a 12-run win over Pacific.
The Wolf Pack (12-4) got to work immediately in Sunday's lone game, loading the bases with a walk, single, and hit by pitch. Taryn Jenkins took advantage of her opportunity with a base-clearing double to put the Pack ahead 3-0 before recording an out. On T. Jenkins' double, Chelie Senini scored her first of three runs, placing her as Nevada's all-time runs scored leader with 157. Charli Hawkins knocked in T. Jenkins with a double, her first of three extra-base hits during the afternoon.
In the top of the third, Nevada added to its lead with Maile Olsen's first homer of the season, scoring Gabby Herrera and Hawkins. Up 7-0, Bridgette Gilliano doubled, scoring Madison Clark and Senini for a nine-run lead.
Pacific scored three runs in the bottom half of the third inning. An error by the Wolf Pack defense allowed the first run to score before Delaney Scully hit a two-run homer to left field, bringing the score to 9-3.
Nevada responded in their half of the fourth with an Olsen RBI-double, scoring Aaliyah Jenkins. Olsen's fourth RBI of the day marked a career-high for the senior.
Five fifth inning runs, started by a Hawkins solo home run, pushed the Pack over the run-rule mark. With the bases loaded, Gilliano's second hit and third RBI of the day scored Olsen for the Pack's 12th run. T. Jenkins added the 13th and 14th runs with her second double of the game, bringing her RBI total to five. The final Pack run was pushed across the plate by Tatum Maytorena, scoring Gilliano.
Up by 12, the mercy rule clinched Nevada's victory after Blake Craft struck out the side in the bottom of the sixth inning. Craft finished her outing in the circle, receiving the win after six innings pitched, allowing three runs, none of which were earned, on five hits, while recording five strikeouts. Craft's start and victory moved her to fifth all-time in Nevada career starts, as well as tying her for seventh all-time in Nevada career wins.
Next weekend, the Pack travels to Riverside, taking on UC Riverside and Southern Utah in a three-team tournament. The first game Friday will begin at 9 A.M. versus Southern Utah.
